Thanksgiving 2012 | Nashville TN Family Photographer

I am so glad that Thanksgiving and Christmas fall in the winter months. If it weren’t for those holidays, I think I’d be a grumpy and miserable person for 3 months a year because I can’t stand the cold. Instead I have these holidays that keep me cheerful.  Luckily we had gorgeous weather on Thanksgiving! We spend Thanksgiving at my oldest sister’s farm. She has tons of land, ponds, 4-wheelers, Rhinos, skeet shooting, bonfires… The list goes on and on, and I don’t think I have to mention it but my boys are in heaven there. This year they went squirrel hunting for the first time, and I shot a rifle for my first time. (I wasn’t any good at skeet shooting AND didn’t like it one bit, but I tried it and that was HUGE for this girly girl!) Anyway, these are my 2 sisters. They were 14 and 18 when I was born. I was a big “surprise” as my mom always says.  I LOVE spending time with these 2.

While we’re there, my middle sister always manages to talk me into taking pictures of her beautiful kiddos. I complain, but I do love taking pictures for her.

My “baby” nephew is a senior this year. I can’t believe it! Isn’t he so handsome?

Night Time {Mine} | Hendersonville TN Family and Child Photographer

I love posting personal pictures on here, but I’ve been so busy with fall family pictures, the studio, and newborns, that all of the pictures have just collected in a folder on my desktop.  But this one is quick and easy:)  I thought I’d show you what 9pm looks like at my house.  As soon as everyone is sleeping, I head to my computer in the office for some night time editing.  It’s my favorite time to edit.

On a side note, don’t forget to take pictures like these.  Details.  They are so important.  It doesn’t matter if you are a fabulous photographer, if you have a fancy camera, if you print them, or if they just sit in a folder on your desktop —- at least you have them.  In this tiny little post there are so many things that I love and will remember.  Our little bit has a love for super heroes.  I love those little spidey pj’s.  He just quit sucking his thumb and is sleeping like such a big boy with his hands down.  B, our big boy.  Mr. Tough and Brave doesn’t like the dark.  He goes to sleep with his head totally covered up and normally pops out of the covers dripping sweat.  And the daddy of the house?  He normally crashes in that very spot every night with his loyal black lab on the floor beside him.  Details I hope I’ll never forget, but now I have pictures so that I know that I’ll never forget.

I love how a picture is like a song.  It can bring you right back to that moment in time.  20 years from now I can look back at these and remember the smell of their clean sheets or feel those sweaty curls as I kiss them goodnight.

3 Year Old Pre-K | Hendersonville TN Child Photographer

Oh, ya’ll… I can hardly believe that I have a 3 year old and a kindergartener this year.  Well, hopefully, I’ll have a Kindergartener – that is if our school system can find a solution for the budget shortages, but that’s a whole other story!  In the meantime, one of my babies is starting school, and he was oh so excited.  Let me just tell you – this is my little separation anxiety guy, and he’s been quite attached to his mommy this summer.  I was worried about the drop off, but I think our back to school plan worked!  He went to Open House last week and met his teachers and saw his classroom (the toys).  I took a picture of him with both of his teachers, and we looked at it and practiced their names all weekend.  One even lives in our neighborhood, and he’s so excited about that.  I don’t think the Spiderman lunch box hurt either.  He was pretty excited about it!  We snapped a few quick back to school shots before running out the door, and he was more than happy to smile for me.  He charged into that room this morning like he owned it and didn’t give me a second glance.  I was so proud of my littlest man.  Next up will be 6 year old and Kindergarten pictures.  It’s a big year around here!

My New Studio | Hendersonville TN Photography Studio

I have been keeping a BIG secret, and I can finally share it with everyone!

I am officially opening a studio this month!  This has become a huge project over the summer.  It’s caused a lot of stress but even more excitement!  So let me tell you a little about it.

SPP will be moving into a cute little house in the heart of Hendersonville, TN.  It’s in a charming grey cottage with yellow shutters.  Inside you’ll find a sitting area and office for meeting with clients.  After each session, clients will be able to meet me at the studio for an ordering session and to view all of my fabulous products.  There’s even a little area for the kids to play while we chat.

The walls will be filled with pictures, but until they are ordered, here’s a little sneak peak.

There are two natural light shooting areas. I will use them primarily for newborn sessions, but I’ll also be photographing babies there – especially in the winter months. This my friends is what sold me.  I am in love with this room.  You may notice it from this session.

There’s also a huge workspace. Do you know what that means? No more packaging products on the floor in my house. No worries of little fingers getting a hold of a canvas or dogs drooling on a package. I’m pretty excited about little things like that!

So what does this mean for SPP?

I am still an on-location photographer.  I will still have outdoor sessions.  I will be able to focus more on newborns and babies, some of my favorite little clients.  Newborn clients will be able to come to the studio for their sessions.  They will have my huge assortment of newborn props right in front of them to choose from for their session.  For my baby sessions in the winter, we won’t have to worry about temperature.  We’ll have the warm, cozy studio available to us.  I will be sharing the studio with two other local photographers, Kristen Weigel and Shannon Watson.  The name of the studio is Snap Studios because we are sharing the space, but we are still our own businesses.  We each specialize in different age groups and will be happy to make referrals if we can’t accommodate a client’s needs.   I am so excited to work with these great ladies, and I am even more excited to share this space with all of my clients.  We will be having an Open House at the end of August so that everyone can stop by and visit.  I’ll announce the date soon.

Meeting Halle | Hendersonville TN Newborn Photographer | Nashville TN Newborn Photographer

After weeks and weeks of waiting, my newest niece Halle made her grand appearance. The boys and I headed to Memphis the day of her induction. I had a few sessions that night but made it to the hospital just in time to meet her for the first time and photograph the big event as well. Besides meeting my own babies, I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to meet someone. It’s pretty awesome becoming an aunt again! This baby girl had a room full of people who already love her. She is one lucky little lady!

The day that they were leaving the hospital was also the day that I had to head back to Nashville, so the big cousins and I went to the hospital for some “official” newborn pictures. We turned the hospital room into a make shift newborn studio and sent the boys off with their Mamaw. Oh my goodness! Halle was absolutely perfect for her first photo shoot. I’ve always said that they give babies some sort of drug in the hospital to make them sleepy and quiet. I never heard either of my boys cry until they came home. Well, it worked for Halle’s newborn session! She was a sleepy angel, and at only 2 days old, she was officially my youngest newborn to photograph. I love how she still has her hospital bracelets on.  Congratulations, Heather and Johnny!  I am so happy for you both, welcome to parenthood!
