When Harper’s mommy contacted me about booking her Nashville one year cake smash, I knew we’d make a great team. She was wanting a simple, vintage look and wanted a cake with flowers. Flowers??? Yeah, that one word pretty much wins me over any day.

Before we let her dig into her cake, we went outside for a few family pictures. One of the things I love about my studio is the small outdoor space in the “backyard”. I say backyard loosely. You know what I mean if you’ve been there! But seriously, there are so many great spots to shoot right around my space.

Finally, it was time to dig in. Harper’s mommy bought a simple cake from Publix. We used a cake from Pinterest as our inspiration. I love using Pinterest as a tool to plan cake smash sessions. In order to keep every session unique, I never recommend looking at other photographer’s work as inspiration. But I love using cakes, especially wedding cakes as inspiration! Keeping the background simple and focusing on baby was our goal.
