Senior year is a whirlwind. My son graduated last year, and I can hardly believe it’s already been a year since his senior year started. One of the first questions many parents and seniors ask is “When should senior photos be taken?”
The best time for senior photos in Nashville is usually early summer through fall of your senior year — typically August through October. However, each season brings its own vibe—and as a Nashville senior photographer, I’m here to help you figure out the best fit for you!
The table below shows the best time for senior photos in Nashville. It includes pros and cons of each season so you can choose the right fit for your style and schedule.
Season | Why Choose This Season? | What to Keep in Mind |
---|---|---|
Summer (June–August) | Flexible schedules, lush green fields, warm weather, beautiful sunsets, no yearbook rush. | Hot and humid; popular months fill fast — book early. |
Fall (September–October) | Colorful leaves, cozy layers, cooler temperatures, great variety for outfits. | Extremely popular — spots fill quickly; earlier sunsets mean earlier session times. |
Winter (November–February) | Unique urban or minimalist look, fewer crowds, fun with layered fashion. | Cold temps; outdoor options limited — consider studio or indoor locations. |
Spring (March–May) | Fresh blooms, soft pastel colors, longer daylight, light and airy vibe. | Unpredictable rain; may feel rushed if deadlines are near. |
As you can see, each season offers something unique for senior pictures. We will discuss each season below. The best time depends on your vision and deadlines.
You should start thinking about your senior photos in January of your junior year. Yes, I said junior year! This is when I open up my calendar for upcoming seniors.
The first thing I will ask you is what month you want to take your senior photos. When you book your session, I’ll pencil you in for a month during your senior year. As your month approaches, we’ll set an exact date based on your schedule and preferences.
Here are some things to consider when choosing the best month for senior pictures:
